The highest accolade the council can bestow upon a person, awarded to Charlie Bird “in recognition of the work and outstanding achievements in the field of broadcasting and journalism”. Previous recipients include Daniel Day-Lewis and Katie Taylor.
A bronze quill – for Bird’s work as a highly-respected news correspondent and documentarian. A bronze eagle’s talon – for the great physical and moral courage that he’s shown throughout his life; and a bronze key – to represent the freedom of the County of Wicklow in appreciative recognition of what has been an exceptional life and career that continue to serve as an inspiration to many.
